What is a roof light?

Can you put a roof lantern on a pitched roof?
Every roof on a building structure should have some degree of pitch to allow for proper water drainage. However, a steeply pitched roof cannot usually support a roof lantern due to angles that affect internal drainage systems. Our roof lights are are intended for installation onto a fully weathered and insulated builders upstand on flat and low pitched roofs. The roof lantern can accommodate installation on an upstand with a pitch of up to 5 degrees but please note this may result in a lopsided appearance. For more details on the upstand requirements, please see our installation guides.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern or rooflight?
No, in most instances, you do not need planning permission for a roof lantern, meaning you can install them without official consent, as long as certain conditions are met. These conditions are usually to do with size and positioning, so it’s better to check with your local planning authority first before installing a roof lantern or rooflight.
How do I choose the right size flat rooflight for my extension?

How to stop flies in a roof lantern?
Flies can be a nuisance in roof lanterns. If properly installed, there should be less of an issue, but in summer months they are hard to avoid. To stop flies in a roof lantern, you should use natural repellents in candles and diffusers or use fly traps or fly screens. If you maintain cleanliness within your home and keep your windows and doors closed where possible, this should also reduce the nuisance caused by flies.
